American golfer Scottie Scheffler emerged victorious at the 107th PGA Championship held at Quail Hollow, overcoming a challenging front nine to secure his third major championship. Despite starting with a three-stroke lead, Scheffler faced competition from other contenders due to early struggles.
Adam Scott, who was aiming for his best major finish in six years, briefly shared second place after birdies on holes four, seven, and ten. However, Scheffler regained momentum with a birdie on the par-5 10th hole and further extended his lead with additional birdies on holes 14 and 15. This performance solidified his five-stroke victory margin.
Scott’s aspirations dwindled following a bogey on the par-4 14th hole. A series of errors led him to finish tied for 19th place alongside fellow Australian Cam Davis at 2-under. Davis also faced difficulties during the final stretch known as the ‘Green Mile,’ dropping shots on each of the last three holes.
New Zealand’s Ryan Fox concluded his tournament tied for 28th place after posting a round of 2-over 73. Meanwhile, Elvis Smylie completed his first weekend at a major with a score of 3-over 74.
Scheffler’s win underscores his resilience and determination in high-pressure situations, marking another significant achievement in his golfing career.
