Victorian golfer Richard Green is in contention for a senior major victory after a strong performance at the Kaulig Companies Championship held at Firestone Country Club in Ohio. Green was one of only two players to complete day two without a bogey, joining fellow Australian Michael Wright in taking advantage of preferred lies due to heavy ground conditions.

Green recorded a 3-under 67, while Wright achieved the day’s lowest round with a 4-under 66. Both players are tied for sixth place at 2-under par, trailing New Zealand’s Steven Alker, American Tim Petrovic, and Argentine Ricardo Gonzalez by three strokes.

Green’s position is familiar territory; he finished as runner-up twice in senior majors last year but has yet to secure his first Champions Tour win. He started Round 2 with a birdie on the par-4 10th hole and maintained his scorecard without errors through effective short game play.

Wright also displayed skillful play by hitting 16 out of 18 greens in regulation, moving up the leaderboard by 23 positions. Last year, Wright tied for seventh at Firestone, marking his best result in a senior major.

Queenslander Rod Pampling was another Australian who performed well in Round 2, finishing with birdies on three of his final five holes to tie for 30th place.

The scores from Round 2 show Steven Alker leading with scores of 68-67—135. Richard Green and Michael Wright both posted scores of 71-67—138. Other notable Australasian players include Mark Hensby (69-70—139), Cameron Percy (69-71—140), and Steve Allan (71-71—142).

Round three tee times have been announced with Rod Pampling and David Bransdon starting at 1:30 am AEST. Other players will follow throughout the morning, including Richard Green at 3:15 am and Steven Alker at 3:26 am.
