Brisbane’s Michael Wright capitalized on a last-minute opportunity to secure his second top-10 finish in a senior major at the Regions Tradition in Alabama. Heavy rain at Greystone Golf and Country Club halted the final round, leaving Angel Cabrera and Jerry Kelly tied for the lead at 18-under, with three and four holes remaining respectively.
Kiwi golfer Steven Alker is just two shots behind the leaders with three holes left to play. All ten Australian players completed 72 holes before darkness suspended play. Wright, who finished tied for seventh at the Kaulig Companies Championship last year, played the weekend in 11-under par, securing eighth place as the only Australian in the top 10. His participation was unexpected, as he joined the field following Scott Verplank’s withdrawal.
Wright’s performance was highlighted by a bogey-free final round, including an eagle on the par-5 13th hole for two consecutive days and birdies on holes 11 and 15, culminating in a round of 5-under 67.
Victorian Richard Green led after two rounds but fell out of contention with a third-round score of 3-over 75. Scott Hend remains atop the Legends Tour Order of Merit, tying for ninth at the OFX Irish Legends. Meanwhile, Adam Scott and Cam Davis both ended up tied for 19th at the PGA Championship in Charlotte.
Scottie Scheffler emerged victorious at Quail Hollow Club with a total score of 273. Despite being seven strokes behind through three rounds, Adam Scott was briefly in second place before struggling on Quail Hollow’s challenging closing stretch.
