Victorian golfer Marc Leishman, known for his impressive career, still seeks victories in the Australian Open and BMW Australian PGA Championship. Despite these missing achievements, Leishman remains determined to claim major championship glory.

At 41, Leishman recently completed 38 holes at the US Open Final Qualifying. He expressed to Australian media that his passion for the sport remains strong despite a nearly three-year hiatus from top-level competition. “Obviously golf’s a funny game and you need a lot of stuff to go right on the right weeks, particularly the major weeks,” he stated.

Leishman has six top-10 finishes in majors but has yet to achieve such success at the US Open. His best result was tied for 14th at The Country Club (Brookline) in 2022. He is familiar with Oakmont Country Club, where he previously finished T18 in 2016.

The golfer appreciates Oakmont’s Pennsylvanian links-inspired layout. “I love it,” he said about the course. “It reminds me a lot of home.” He believes his driving skills have improved significantly since 2015, which could enhance his performance at the US Open.

Reflecting on past experiences, Leishman acknowledged that while he didn’t enjoy the mental challenges of major championships initially, he has grown to embrace them over time. “I think the older I’ve gotten the more I’ve embraced that and enjoyed it,” he remarked.

Joining Leishman at Oakmont will be fellow Australians Cam Davis, Jason Day, Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott, and Cameron Smith.
