Long-time coach Col Swatton has reunited with golfer Jason Day, aiming to rekindle the success they achieved a decade ago. Swatton and Day celebrated their peak at the 2015 US PGA Championship, a pivotal moment in Australian golf. Their journey began when Day was under Swatton’s guidance as a teenager.
Over the past ten years, Day’s life has evolved significantly. His family with wife Ellie now includes five children. He has also faced challenges, including a severe back injury and various coaching changes after parting ways with Swatton in 2020.
Day managed runner-up finishes at major championships like the PGA Championship in 2016 and The Open Championship in 2023, alongside six more PGA TOUR wins. Despite spending most of 2022 outside the top 100 rankings, he is experiencing a resurgence.
Swatton believes that returning to what initially made Day successful is crucial for continued improvement. “Jase just needs to…quiet the noise that he’s been going through for the last three or four years,” said Swatton. He added that part of his role is to remind Day of past achievements and hold him accountable to those standards.
In their earlier partnership, Day was known for his determination during four wins over six events when world golf was within his reach. Today, at age 37, motivations have shifted but remain strong as he balances professional goals with family responsibilities.
“Jason’s in a different place now,” said Swatton about Day’s current phase of life and career aspirations. He emphasized that setting examples for his children is important for Day’s legacy.
Reflecting on their past success together at Whistling Straits against then-world No.1 Jordan Spieth, both men experienced an emotional moment after clinching victory on the final hole—a testament to their shared journey toward championship glory.
