Queensland golfer Jack Munro secured a two-shot win at the EC Pohl & Co Southport Pro-Am, finishing with a 6-under-par 65. The event served as preparation for the upcoming Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia season.

Munro, who recently posted two top-10 finishes in NSW Open Regional Qualifying Series events, played a bogey-free round that included an eagle and four birdies. He used a new set of irons during the tournament.

Cam John, the 2024 National Tournament champion from Victoria, and Queensland veteran Steven Jeffress tied for second place at 4-under. Cory Crawford, last year’s Vic PGA champion, was among seven players tied for fourth with scores of 68.

Munro is scheduled to compete next in the PNG Open in Port Moresby, which marks the start of the 2025/26 Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia season. He will then travel to Palmerston for the Tailor-made Building Services NT PGA Championship. Munro aims to improve on his previous season’s Order of Merit ranking where he finished No.36.

Reflecting on his performance, Munro said: “I had a good day, a good group and I’ve played a lot at Southport over the years here, so it was nice to play well and get a win.

“It’s always pleasing to get (a win) on the board and then hopefully get rolling into the season.

“I actually put a brand new set of irons in today and it’s always good to just try them out under the pump. So yeah, they’re probably going to stay in now for next week.”

Steven Jeffress set an early target score of 4-under-par among morning groups before Munro surged ahead in his afternoon round with an eagle on the par-5 first hole and consecutive birdies on holes seven and eight.

The next adidas PGA Pro-Am Series event is scheduled for Mt Coolum in Queensland on Monday.
