One of the most recognized voices in golf, Ian Baker-Finch, has announced his retirement from a 30-year career in television commentary. For the past 19 years, Baker-Finch has been an analyst with CBS, becoming a familiar presence during Masters coverage. He was notably present when Adam Scott became the first Australian to win the green jacket in 2013.
Reflecting on that moment, Baker-Finch recalled his words, “From Down Under to on top of the world,” which resonated deeply with Australian golf fans. “I could barely get it out,” he shared on the Subpar podcast. Recalling the conditions at the time, he said, “It was dark, it was raining… The cleaners had come through.”
As he steps away from commentary, Baker-Finch expressed gratitude for staying connected to golf after retiring as a player. “Golf has been an enormous part of my life,” he stated on Instagram. He acknowledged his colleagues and fans for their support over the decades.
The announcement was met with widespread appreciation. European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald praised him as a true professional. Robert Allenby congratulated him on two great careers and noted that his voice will be missed by many. Suzy Whaley also extended her best wishes for his future endeavors.
Baker-Finch will conclude his broadcasting career after CBS’s final two PGA TOUR events of 2025, ending with the Wyndham Championship on August 3.
