Four years ago, Elvis Smylie embarked on his professional golf career at the BMW International Open in Germany. This week, he returns to the same tournament, marking another step in his development as a professional golfer.

In 2021, Smylie received eight sponsor exemptions over two years, showcasing his potential despite initial challenges. He missed the cut in his first eight DP World Tour appearances but has since begun to gain recognition in the professional realm. At 23, Smylie achieved a significant victory by defeating Cameron Smith at the BMW Australian PGA Championship last November and completed all four rounds of a major championship for the first time at the US PGA Championship last month.

Reflecting on his journey, Smylie said, “It’s very hard to be able to plan what the next four years are going to look like.” He acknowledged changes within his team over the past year and a half and expressed confidence in their guidance. “I definitely feel like I’ve got the right people around me now to be able to guide me in the right direction,” he added.

Smylie looks forward to participating in upcoming events such as the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open Championship at Royal Portrush. He is also preparing for these tournaments with links golf practice next week in Scotland. “You want to feel confident by having good results going into big events,” he noted.

Ryan Peake, New Zealand Open champion, also has aspirations for The Open at Portrush. Recently reunited with his clubs after playing an event with borrowed equipment, Peake expressed excitement about returning to familiar gear. “Game’s good. Feel like I’m starting to swing it pretty well,” he commented.

Both golfers are focused on performing well in upcoming competitions as they continue their respective journeys on the international golf stage.
