Victorian golfer Cameron Percy maintained a share of the lead after the second round of the Senior PGA Championship in Maryland. Despite missing some opportunities, Percy ended with a 1-under 71 to remain at the top alongside Vijay Singh from Fiji and Korea’s YE Yang, both scoring rounds of 4-under 68 for a total of 6-under par.
The challenging conditions at Congressional Country Club, coupled with gusty winds, saw only six players break 70 on day two. Percy was two-under through nine holes but dropped shots at holes 10 and 15 before making birdie on the final hole.
Reflecting on his performance, Percy noted missed birdie chances that could have given him an advantage. “I missed out on birdieing nine and 11 which would have given me a nice little buffer there,” he said. He acknowledged mistakes on several holes but accepted them as part of the game.
Percy entered this week with limited preparation due to injury but expressed satisfaction with his draw, hoping it would help him manage his physical condition over the weekend. “I was pretty happy with the draw when I saw it,” he mentioned after tweaking his back earlier in the week.
Among other notable performances was Mick Smith from Wisconsin, originally from Sydney, who made the cut for the second consecutive year. Smith shot rounds of 72-73 to be tied for 31st place alongside fellow Australians Mark Hensby and Brendan Jones.
