The Australasian presence at the 125th US Open at Oakmont Country Club has been strengthened by the late inclusion of Marc Leishman and Ryan Fox. The Oakmont venue, known for its historic championships since 1919, has seen only one Australian victory despite its prestigious legacy.
Leishman, who qualified after surviving 38 holes at Final Qualifying, joins fellow Australians Cam Davis, Jason Day, Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott, and Cameron Smith in the competition. Meanwhile, Fox secured his spot due to a recent rise in world rankings following two PGA TOUR victories.
Reflecting on Oakmont’s challenging course conditions from his previous visits with manager Bud Martin and his father Paul, Leishman stated: “I love the place… I feel like if I can have a good week with my driver – and I’ve been driving it well – I can really let my iron play do its thing.”
Fox enters the tournament with notable confidence following wins at the Myrtle Beach Classic and RBC Canadian Open. His recent performance pushed him into the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking. Speaking about Oakmont’s demanding nature, Fox remarked: “It sounds like it’s going to be a proper beat up… It will be fun.”
The US Open coverage will include 45 hours of live broadcasting on Fox Sports and Kayo starting Thursday night.
