Australasians gear up for US Senior Open at The Broadmoor

The 45th US Senior Open is set to take place at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, featuring 13 Australasian golfers among the 155 participants. The East Course at The Broadmoor has previously hosted the event twice, with Eduardo Romero winning in 2008 and David Toms in 2018.

A significant number of hopefuls, totaling 2,585, attempted to qualify for this year’s tournament. Among those making it through Final Qualifying are Mathew Goggin, Brendan Jones, and Richard Lee from New Zealand. This marks the second consecutive year that Goggin has secured a spot via Final Qualifying. He and Jones advanced at Manor Country Club in Maryland.

Richard Lee, who won medallist honors at Bend Golf Club in Oregon, joins fellow New Zealanders Steven Alker and Michael Campbell in representing their country. Lee will be the first Australasian to tee off on Thursday at 11:21 pm AEST. The tournament will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and Kayo Sports.

Past champion Richard Bland returns as does Graham Marsh who won the event back in 1997. The prize money for this year’s championship stands at $4 million.

TV coverage includes live broadcasts on Fox Sports across various channels throughout the weekend.

– Steve Allan: Making his debut appearance.

– Mathew Goggin: Best finish was T51 in 2024.
– Richard Green: Finished third last year.
– Scott Hend: Debut appearance.
– Mark Hensby: Finished third in 2022.
– Brendan Jones: Debut appearance with a best senior major finish of T40 this year.
– Richard Lee (NZ): Second appearance after missing the cut last year.
– Rod Pampling: Fourth-place finisher in 2020.
– Cameron Percy: Best senior major finish of seventh this year.
